Departments
Updated over a week ago

Departments represent groupings of users and tasks across your instance of Baton. These groupings allow for better organization of team members and workload across projects, templates, and your workspace.

This article contains the following sections:

Managing Departments

Departments can be managed from General Settings > Departments tab within the Workspace management page. From this tab, vendor users are able to create, edit and delete departments.

To create a new department, simply select the + sign at the top of the page. This will generate an "Untitled Department" within the Departments table. Users can rename a department by clicking the title and entering the name of the department they wish to create. Users can also delete departments by selecting the delete button next to any department.

Assigning Users to a Department

Vendor users can be assigned to departments within General Settings > Members. Client members cannot be assigned to departments.

To add a new user within a department, click the + sign at the top of the page, enter their information and select from a list of workspace-specific departments. To add an existing user to a department, select Manage next to the user's name to select the appropriate department from this list. Users also have the ability to filter members based on their department from this view.

Note: If no departments have been created in the workspace, the dropdown menu will display β€œNo departments to select.”

Assigning Tasks to a Department

From within the task drawer or bulk actions on any project or template, vendor users can assign a department to vendor task(s). Client tasks cannot be assigned to a department and client users will not be able to edit this field on vendor tasks. Client users will, however, be able to view project team member departments and vendor task departments that are not hidden from them.

Additionally, in an effort to make task assignments more streamlined, the assignee dropdown will suggest workspace users of the same department at the top of the user list.
